Plecotus auritus; the Brown Long-eared Bat (the Horned Bat)
The nickname of this species comes from its habit of curling its ears back when at rest, giving them the appearance of ram's horns, and its fur is light brown above and cream beneath, though they key characteristic is of course the long ears. This species is widespread and inhabits mature trees as well as old, large buildings; for this reason it appears to have its Cheshire strongholds in areas of historical wealth.
The roosts typically host 10 - 20 bats though up to 100 individuals have been found together with no division between gender. Finally, its echolocation calls peak at 39khz and sound like quiet ticks.
