Myotis daubentonii; Daubenton's Bat (the Water Bat)
Daubenton's bat is one of the most widespread bats in the UK and as its nickname above suggests it is associated with water as it has a habit of skimming the surface to catch associated invertebrates such as those in the mayfly order (Ephemeroptera). They do also forage in woodland, though their roosts are rarely far from water.
As for their presence at Reaseheath, the lake makes a perfect home for them surrounded by mature and semi-mature oaks (Quecus robur) and beech (Fagus sylvatica). It can be heard with the use of a heterodyne detector peaking at 48khz.
