Myodes glareolus; the Bank Vole
A far more common vole species than the water vole (Arvicola terrestris) although the population trend is unknown; an estimated 75 million inhabit the UK. It is common and widespread and Cheshire but appears to be declining, especially from the Wirral peninsula, when pre-2000/post-2000 records are compared.
They can be found in broadleaved woodland and hedgerows where they live off of plant species as well as fruit and invertebrates.They may travel 50m every day searching for food.
